Little Girl

"Little Girl" is one of my first series. Within a short time, several female friends of mine told me troubled stories of their childhood. I was fighting myself with a blockage connected to my youth. These stories were bubbling in my mind. I put together an archetypal girl made of driftwood. I copied her shape on baking paper and reproduced it repeatedly on the same background. Each version received different clothing and became a well-defined character. It was such a liberation to see the girls coming into being, both funny and pleased with themselves. In retrospect I realized the connection between those childhood memories and my girls. I wrote a text including the tales that moved me to make them. For me, the girls represent old stories that have been positively transmuted.
